If you are wondering what the future of cars and mobility looks like, Audi has embarked on a journey to make cars and mobility like we have never seen, and definitely have not experienced before. Well, with Audi it’s all about premium or luxury mobility. The Audi Grandsphere concept is what Audi’s design team and engineers created to showcase what the future holds.

When it comes to Audi, it is not just about driving. It is about the experience. The very first time I got into the Audi fold, it was all about the Audi experience. The program was actually called the Audi Experience. With the Audi Grandsphere concept; the Audi experience for the future looks like something taken out of a science fiction movie and I like it. Anyway, a lot of everyday things that seem normal was once thought to be only available in the world of science fiction back in the day.

What makes the cars like Audi Grandsphere concept special according to Henrick Wenders, Head of Brand at Audi AG is that they are no longer just cars. It is the beginning of a new era, an era of high-class experiences. These concept cars (Skysphere concept, Grandsphere concept, and the Urbansphere concept) are the vision of what they (Audi) see the future as. Digitalization has made it possible to enhance much further the personal, immersive, and entirely human-centric experiences.
These concept cars are experience devices, perfectly embedded in a holistic digital ecosystem that showcases the sustainability of future progressive luxury.

The Audi Grandsphere concept is made possible thanks to available technologies that according to Marc Lichte, Head of Design at Audi AG; allows his team of designers to take designing to a whole new level. They have also developed whole new technologies that has opened up never before seen ways of mobility. Modern electric motors and Audi’s vision of automated driving has allowed Audi’s designer to change the design language of their cars in ways that were not possible before.

Smaller or more compact electric motors and batteries provides additional freedom for their designers to design and let free more creativity. Cars no longer must just be cars. They can also be offices, cinemas, and lounges as one journeys from point A to point B. This means that paying attention on the road will one day be a thing of the past.

Needless to say, concept cars do not make it to production in its entirety. What they do is to show us the technologies and capabilities of car makers, in this case, Audi. While the Grandsphere will probably not make it to production, what we can expect is that Future Audi models will have some of these features that are featured here in the Grandsphere concept. This is something I am looking forward to.
